Venue

The spectacular TSB Showplace has three venues within one complex - the TSB Theatre is an original three-tier theatre, the Theatre Royal provides an intimate setting with seats on a modern rollaway system and the Alexandra Room has excellent conference and exhibition facilities.

TSB Showplace is centrally located on New Plymouth's main street, 92-100 Devon Street West, in the CBD.  See the location map

The theatre was originally built in 1883 and known as the Alexander Hall. It was enlarged in 1904 and sold to the New Plymouth Theatre Company and renamed the Theatre Royal. It was then destroyed by fire in 1916.

After being rebuilt it opened in 1925 as the New Plymouth Opera House. It continued mainly as a picture theatre until 1969 when it fell into disuse. Support from the Council and TSB Bank finally saw a refurbished theatre open in 1999.

After a visit to Taranaki it's not hard to see why the region has been voted home to New Zealand's and the world's best small city.

New Plymouth is situated on the west coast of the North Island and has the Tasman Sea and Mt Taranaki at its doorstep.  Taranaki gives us the mountain, lakes, rivers, sea, surf, beaches and bush walks - providing for lots of outdoor activities, surfing, skiiing, fishing, sailing and hiking.

Taranaki is also the home of Womad, Festival of Lights, Taranaki Arts Festival, Taranaki Rhododendron and Garden Festival and also provides a beautiful backdrop for concerts and events at the famous Bowl of Brooklands and Pukekura Park.

The main industries within Taranaki are dairy, manufacturing, engineering, oil and gas, food and beverage, and the Port of Taranaki which is the only deep water seaport on New Zealand's western seaboard.
