About New Plymouth, Taranaki
After a visit to Taranaki it's not hard to see why the region has been voted home to New Zealand's and the world's best small city.
New Plymouth is situated on the west coast of the North Island and has the Tasman Sea and Mt Taranaki at its doorstep. Taranaki gives us the mountain, lakes, rivers, sea, surf, beaches and bush walks - providing for lots of outdoor activities, surfing, skiiing, fishing, sailing and hiking.
Taranaki is also the home of Womad, Festival of Lights, Taranaki Arts Festival, Taranaki Rhododendron and Garden Festival and also provides a beautiful backdrop for concerts and events at the famous Bowl of Brooklands and Pukekura Park.
The main industries within Taranaki are dairy, manufacturing, engineering, oil and gas, food and beverage, and the Port of Taranaki which is the only deep water seaport on New Zealand's western seaboard.
